What makes our products fully-compostable and not only biodegradable?

Biodegradable and compostable are two terms which are used interchangeably, while they have different meanings. Therefore, what makes a product compostable and another biodegradable? Let’s try to understand.



Compostable Biodegradable
Products that are compostable will fully degrade in less than one year when sent to an industrial composting facility and will release valuable nutrients (humus) along with breaking down into organic matter. Compostable products are biodegradable, but with an added benefit: when they break down, they release valuable nutrients into the soil and produce no toxic residues. Products that are biodegradable will break down into water, biomass and carbon dioxide, though it could take decades or centuries. All plant-based, animal-based or natural mineral-based products are usually biodegradable. Biodegradable products will not break down efficiently in a compost pile and should instead be thrown away and set to the landfill.


To be able to decompose efficiently and to leave no trace behind them, compostable products have to be sent to industrial composting facilities in order to create the perfect environement for their full decomposition.
